Piha North

Site Information

Piha is located on the West Coast of Auckland.

From Titirangi, follow the signs to Piha.  On reaching the beach drive to the northern end, park the vehicle, and walk some 300 metres along the beach before taking a signposted track signposted White's Beach.

Climb the hill, arriving at the top of the ridge, turn right and proceed to the first bach.

Take off is on part of the property belonging to this bach.

Launch height for the northern site is 270 ft A.S.L. For experienced pilots it is possible to fly South from Piha to the Manukau Heads and north to Muriwai.

Cautions

Be aware of the possibility of the wind swinging to the West as this creates turbulence over the headland to the North of the launch site.

Airspace

Lion Rock, located in the middle of Piha Beach denotes the border of Whenuapai controlled airspace and VFR Transit Lane T158 Te Henga.

Height ceiling to the north of Lion Rock, i.e., over North Piha takeoff is 200t ASL.

Height ceiling to the south of Lion Rock, is 2500ft ASL.

Access Conditions

The northern site is on private property and is sensitive, permission needs to be obtained from the bach owners prior to flying and should preferably be made through site monitor.
